Coffee Punk!

I make coffee @ Detour. If you are somehow involved in the coffee world, whether you’re a roaster, cafe owner, barista or just a coffee wanker. Don’t be a self inflating D#%k head. You are nobody special, you are an average person who just happens to have a little expertise in the field of coffee.
So when you arrive in a cafe, you are just another person but a valued customer.
I believe that when you walk into someone’s establishment, especially a good operator’s establishment you show a little respect and act just like anyone else. You should enjoy the coffee maker’s own spin on the beverage. Don’t be a D@%k head, it’s only coffee.

Much love

Steve

p.s This is just a rant and an insight into the dark side of the coffee world. I am just trying to break down the “wank factor”.

so I see you only post comments in your favour fuck wit! You have nothing original to offer, not even your average coffee. Your rant is a reflection of yourself.

Brett, if you don’t like what you get at Detour there are a million other coffee shops in the broader Sydney CBD so take your business elsewhere. Having worked full-time since 1992, and being dependent on coffee since my teens, I’ve had more ‘regular’ coffee places than many (in Sydney, Melbourne and Newcastle) and Detour is in the upper percentile band. What I like most is the consistency … of the product but also of the familiar, freindly reception. In 2010 personal service is the exeception to the rule. Plently of businesses talk about it and aspire to it but few actually achieve it. Detour does it and does it well. I worked in advertising for years so I know smarmy. The team at Detour do not engage in theatrics. It’s genuine, friendly service. And it works, because it’s unique.

Hi Brett, If you would like to check the page you actually commented on, “everything but the cafe”, you will see that I did publish it as soon as it came through. I replied and hoped it would not end in an unpleasant way. You seem to take this very personally, I did not mean to cause you such distress. I’m sure I was not commenting on you.

I apolgise for posting this blog on the other page but I am a Luddite and am just getting the hang of the e world.

  • steve says:

I have edited my coffee punk post so that some members of the general coffee drinking population don’t have an anurism. And brett you should relax a little.

I would like to congratulate you Steve on a Kitch little operation where not only is the coffee and the smoothies great but the service is OUTSTANDING… As a fellow business owner I now know we live In a world where the customer is NOT always right and it takes courage to point our to rude, obnoxious, self absorbed people that their such attitude is not always welcome (even when they have money to pay for the coffee they are complaining about)..

I dont ever get a smoothie from anywhere else and quiet often drive across the city for your amazing toasted paninis

    xx
